Castro: High Fidelity Podcasts App Reviews

Great design, bad functionality

One star for the design of the app. Its beautifully simple. The reason I simply cant use this app over my favorite podcast app, Pocket Casts, is because its missing basic features; 1. Show me a list of what I have downloaded. Storage on my phone is limited and therefore precious. I dont want to hunt around each podcast feed to see whats been downloaded. 2. Let me sort a podcasts feed how I want; by date, new, etc.

Best podcast app

Elegant UI. Full functionality. What else can you expect? This app is worth your support!

A minimalists dream

A previous reviewer criticized Castro for lack of features compared to other podcast apps, but I believe that person is misled by what Castro offers. Castro is a fluid, intuitive, minimal podcast app; its not supposed to satisfy the lowest common denomenator by stuffing as many features as it can in the app. Its not an app for everyone. Its an app for people who appreciate the symbiotic trinity of design, functionality, and simplicity. One note: I would love Chromecast Audio support.

A really great podcast app.

It is easy to use and I haven’t had any syncing issues. It is the best looking podcast app I’ve tried for sure. It seems like everyone that uses it has their one thing this app needs to make it a perfect podcasting app. For example, I’d pay a little extra to unlock being able to organize things into some sort of playlists.

Very nice!!!

**Update for version 1.5.4. Still enjoying Castro. But it seems that theres something going on with the caching. App size is only 5mb. But total size with Documents/Data is about 500mb. I have close to 20 podcast subscriptions, but it didnt seem to operate this way in version 1? Hoping for good things when version 2.0 hits! I also hope they settle on a payment option. I paid for version 1, then it went free/patronage after Overcast did it. Now its back to free and version 2 will be paid. Id rather pay a larger sum up front and not have to see things asking me to donate more within the app, ruining the UI. Very happy with my purchase of Castro. The UI is beautiful and the use of swiping to navigate throughout the app is smooth and enjoyable. I especially like the fact that I can set either global or individual settings for auto or manually downloading podcast episodes. This is something I hated when I tried Overcast. Overcast would automatically download every new episode with no options to do it manually. This is very annoying when you have podcast subscriptions where you dont necessarily want to listen to every new episode. With Castro, I can pick and choose how this goes. A couple things Id like to see: 1) Ability to save settings/subscriptions just in case you need to delete and reinstall the app. 2) Notification badges. 3) Better search and suggestions. The search is quick, but could use an easier way for new podcast discovery.

Great Podcast App

Simple and easy to use for people new to podcasts or who listen to only a handful.

Excellent

Castro is my favorite podcast player. Ive tried them all, and even though others have features Castro doesnt none of them can beat Castros clean, simple UI. If you havent tried it yet, you should.

How do I know which podcasts were downloaded?

Like the app but it needs a delete function. I download a podcast every now and again but if I dont always listen right away. The "episode" tabs automatically fill up on a daily basis so I cant find which podcast I downloaded. Can you add a delete all feature and another one that shows which podcasts were actually downloaded? Thanks.
