Castro: High Fidelity Podcasts App Reviews

Clean, simple, reliable

I listen to podcasts everyday because this app makes you want to use it.

Perfect

I was holding out for Marco Arments podcast app, but I caved and got this. No regrets, this is the best podcast app I can imagine. Podcasts are fun to download and listen to again! Great job

Does lots of things right.

It really distills the things I want in a podcast app in a visually interesting and intuitive package. Simple and elegant. For example, I often dont have the time, nor the desire, to listen to every single episode of all the podcasts I subscribe to. Castro is really good at getting me to cycle through them.

Great app and pretty

Solid performance, not the most feature rich but does what it does well

Best podcast client

Interface is beautiful. And theres show-notes!

Excellence

Simple, elegant, functional and a pleasure to use. Far and away better than Apples Podcasts app.

Tracklist not showing

For music podcasts. You can see partial of the tracklist on the "episodes" screen but when you go into the podcast it just disappears

Beautifully designed...

...just video playback and support for audio chapters is missing!

Beautiful, spend way less time tapping around.

I have been listening to podcasts since before iTunes could download them, and Castro is my favourite way to listen to them so far. I’ve used a number of podcast apps, and Downcast was my previous favourite. It wasn’t beautiful, it got the job done, but I felt like I was constantly moving in and out of menus. Castro doesn’t feel like it at all. 90% of the time I stay in the episode or now playing view, so I feel like I can really quickly get to the thing I actually want to be doing in the app: listening to the podcast. I really like the episode view, because you get a nice overview of all the new episodes, but if you really like, you can go to the podcast view to see everything. All the sounds are really appealing, as are the visuals. I think there are probably features missing for some people, this is a 1.0, and it really feels like there’s lots of room for the app to grow. I love it.

Beautiful.

I used Downcast until Castro came along, largely for the syncing. Castro doesnt have a mac app, but its iOS design has been enough for me to ignore that. Truly beautiful and so well considered.

Terrible typography

Its inconsistent with iOS 7, and reduces the amount of content visible on the screen vs. before. The other options are welcome, but the app looks bipolar, with its beautiful layout but ugly font

Clean, clear, functional, simple.

I dont need my podcast player to organize my life. I need it to organize and play my podcast subscriptions. Castro does that perfectly. I havent found anything better — and believe me, Ive looked.

The best there is.

Castro is elegant, simple, and powerful. It looks great, sounds great, and smells great. Simply the best podcast app there is.

Very good but

I like the slick design very cool look but I would like to have an option to listen to just a certain podcast rather than the whole episode list ( sometimes I feel like just listening and catching up on a certain podcast) also has a hard time downloading podcasts with larger files (80mb+) and lastly chapter titles (music podcasts often have the song title and artist as the chapter title) other than that great work!

Fantastic

Wonderful podcast app, by far the best Ive tried, which is five at this point. Love the little animations and how navigation is gesture based. Very intuitive.

A fresh take

I like the UX of this podcast app. No cruft - just what you need and importantly background refresh and upload. Now also includes continuous play! 1.1.1 is best version yet, better font choice.

Great

I got fed up with having to buy a new version of Instacast every six months so I made the switch. Very happy! I should have switched sooner. Castro is truly a 5-star app. The only thing I miss from Instacast is the ability to sort the playlist manually, but Im learning to deal. If the developer added that, it would be a 6-star app. Seriously, you cant go wrong with Castro.

Good

Prior to the latest 1.1 update, this app was a visual marvel and super easy to use. Now it looks clunky and basic, and new features have been added but the original idea of the app was to skip the junk that slows down other "pro" podcast apps. Unfortunately, I dont like the new design.

Please add more options for fast forward interval.

Two minute skip would be ideal. Thank you.

Best podcasting app I’ve used

Tremendous design - gorgeous and useful. Audio definitely sounds good. Background refresh is great. Newest update added some incredibly useful features - this app gets love! Did I mention how good the design is?! Seriously, use the audio scrubber on this app once, and then try to figure out why no one else has anything this good.
